A visit to Manu's only accessible Macaw Clay Lick and to the world's
largest Tapir Clay Lick. Unlimited access to our new "stairway to the
stars" - a unique spiral staircase to a large observation platform in
the top of a huge kapok tree - and other new wildlife attractions
Manu Wildlife Center located east of the Manu River on the north bank of
the Madre de Dios River, and reached by a 35-minute light plane flight
from Cusco, offers the Amazon’s finest short, in-depth wildlife safari.
The Lodge contains 22 double-occupancy fully screened bungalows with
private bath (with hot shower), a large fully screened dining room, and
a bar with hammocks for relaxing.
Three fixed departure programs per week : Monday, Wednesday & Friday.
Day one
Early morning our representative will pick you up from your hotel to
transfer to Cusco airport.
A thirty-five minute flight in a radar-equipped twin engine plane takes
you to Boca Manu. Here you take a motorized canoe for the 90 minutes
journey down the Madre de Dios River to Manu Wildlife Center to arrive
for lunch. The afternoon will be spent exploring some of the 30 miles of
clean forest trails that surround the lodge. On these trails you have an
excellent chance to encounter some of the 12 species of monkeys, which
include the Monk Saki and Emperor Tamarin, which inhabit the surrounding
forest.
After dinner you will have a short night excursion to explore nocturnal
life in the rainforest.
Day two
Rising before dawn, we take a 25 minutes boat journey downstream to the
only large parrot and macaw clay lick in the Manu area. From a floating
catamaran blind we are afforded excellent views and photo opportunities
of hundreds of medium-sized and large parrots arriving first at the lick,
followed by the large Red-and-Green Macaws arriving to eat the clay.
Please note that the clay lick is not as active in May, June and July.
After lunch at the Center we continue to explore the miles of forest
trails surrounding the lodge, and spend the late afternoon up a 34 meter
canopy platform. Here we watch the last frantic activity in the
rainforest canopy before night settles.
We return for dinner back at the center and then leisurely hike for
60-75 minutes through the night forest to the Amazon’s largest known
Tapir clay lick. We climb up a 17 foot by 17 foot observation platform
perched 17 feet above the lick itself where we wait for the lumbering
Tapirs to arrive, then using powerful flashlights we observe and
photograph them in action. (L/B/D).
Day three
Rising at dawn you will board the motor-canoe to visit the Camungo Oxbow
Lake. In addition to touring the lake by catamaran to look for the
resident family of giant otters and other lakeside fauna, we will
explore the forest trail and visit the 40 meter high canopy platform.
This canopy platform provides a beautiful view of the camungo lake as
well as the forest canopy. And on very clear days it is possible to look
over the rainforest to the andes.
After lunch at the Center the guide is available to further explore the
forest trails for more wildlife encounters. Alternatively time is
available to independently explore the forest trails.
After supper, those explorers still with enough energy will have a
chance for a final visit to the Tapir clay lick. (B,L,D,)
Day four
Rising at dawn you board the motor-canoe for the two hours return trip
to the Manu landing strip, from which you fly to Cusco, where your
jungle adventure ends. Arrival, reception and transfer to the your
hotel. (B).
Please note that the program may vary slightly so as to maximize your
wildlife sightings, depending on the reports of our researchers and
experienced naturalist guides based at the lodge.

Our tour to
the islands on Lake Titicaca was a
wonderful day. We had great weather and the people that we met
were very friendly. The island of Taguile was a beautiful little
paradise. The hotel in Puno was very good, with a great
breakfast. It is too bad we could only stay one night. We kept
the room for the second night so that we could freshen up before
going on the bus to Cusco Peru.
Thank you for everything that you have done to make our trip so
enjoyable. Please pass along to Christi our thanks for the great
job that she did in organizing our tour. She was able to
assemble an itinerary that included everything that we asked for
and still was not too rushed. It was an enjoyable, informative
and relaxing time.
Thank you again to all of the staff at
Peru travel Gateway
and your suppliers for making this a wonderful experience.

We had a very nice trip to Peru.
Thanks for you help. Our hotels in Peru
were what we expected, very nice and the hotel help went out of
their way to make sure we were comfortable and had what we needed.
Our guides were outstanding. Always on time and catered to our
needs. Our groups were small except for the Sacred Valley tour where
we had 25 members. Food was plentiful and tasty at each restaurant.
The Hotel Casa Andina in Cusco gave us an upgrade when we returned
from MP which was very nice. Also, the Radisson gave us an upgrade
when we returned to Lima although we stayed only 6 hours.
Again, thanks for your services. I feel very fortunate that I
selected your travel services, because of the services. Several on
the trip thought I was mighty brave to select an unknown agency. I
was impressed with Ivan during our first emails and phone
conversations. I trusted him and he trusted me, this makes for happy
results for everyone.
Sincerely, Mary Earp.

I just returned back to the US from my trip to Peru. I wanted to let
you know how grateful I am for the wonderful experience that you
help me coordinate and plan. I loved all of the sites and felt I had
a unique experience that I will never forget.
The tour planners and the tour
guides were all wonderful and extremely helpful. Each of them were
very polite and knowledgable about their subjects and locations. I
learned alot about Peru and its customs.
The hotel on Machu Picchu (Sanctuary Lodge) and the hotel in Puno
(The Libertador) were excellent and I would recommend anyone to stay
in each of those locations. The San Augustin El Dorado was just
adequate; I found the hotel to be clean and the staff helpful, but
there is too much noise during the evening and mornings; this is
because many of the rooms overlook the central lobby of the hotel
and the acoustics create echos of sound from the front desk and
those people having conversations in the lobby area. Also, the space
heaters in each of the El Dorado rooms I stayed in did not work at
all. I do not think I would recommend the hotel to people unless
they didn't mind a noisy atmosphere.
The Posada del Inca hotel in Bolivia was very nice; I really liked
the rustic feel and intimate setting and the private gardens--the
views of Lake Titicaca and the mountains were spectacular. Although
I didn't realize it would be a hike (literally) up to it. One of the
couples I was travelling with on the first day in Bolivia had
trouble making it up the hillside (they didn't know they would have
to hike to the top to get to the hotel). I would recommend letting
potential guests know that it is a 40 - 45 minute hike from the dock
to the hotel itself. The guides were very helpful and it was good
that our luggage was carried up separately.
The trip was amazing and I just wanted to thank you for all of your
planning. I would recommend you and your staff to everyone I know
who wanted to plan a trip to go to Peru.
Have a wonderful new year!
Regards,
Wendy
